Herng Yi is a PhD candidate and Vanier Scholar in the Department of Mathematics. Their research is in the quantitative aspects of Riemannian Geometry and Algebraic Topology. They have devised high-dimensional convex shapes that can be caught by a lasso. Through their department’s NSERC Proposal-writing Bootcamp, they have guided graduate students in improving their research proposals.
Herng Yi co-founded the Bird’s Eye Conference for graduate students to introduce their fields to one another through accessible survey talks. They have also given talks on the social impact of mathematics. They continue to explore new ways to help scholars to convey the beauty of their work in an accessible way.
Herng Yi has a BSc in Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
