“You literally learn from the best.”
The University of Toronto’s stellar reputation clinched it for me. I knew that the PhD program in Chemistry would equip me with the skills and knowledge to become distinguished in my field.
What sets U of T apart for me is the remarkable accomplishments of alumni. Most of the major Canadian movers and shakers are U of T graduates.
The program has surpassed my expectations; the administrative staff provides support and direction for various opportunities that are designed to enhance student success.
My lab mates are my colleagues but have also become my friends. Overall, I find the professors in the University of Toronto Mississauga community to be accessible for mentoring and teaching. The knowledge I gain in class and group discussions is riveting and inspiring. I meet people from all over the world, and the quality of discussion is unmatched. What I like most about U of T is the calibre of the faculty. You literally learn from the best.
Outside the classroom, I am involved with numerous community-based organizations such as Visions of Science Network for Learning (a not-for-profit science-based literacy program) and Creating Global Citizens Project (an internationally focused youth leadership program).
I think the U of T experience is all about finding your passion and reaching for excellence. I hope to gain all the knowledge I can to catapult me to the next stage.
The Adel S. Sedra Distinguished Graduate Award is a fellowship of up to $25,000 awarded to a doctoral student who demonstrates outstanding academic and extracurricular leadership.
